Steel Foundry
The foundry uses two electric arc furnaces capable of producing 3000 tonnes per annum.
With the aid of several different-sized moulding machines and floor moulding techniques, individual castings of up to 15 tonne of finished mass can be produced.
The foundry is serviced by two 15 tonne overhead cranes.
Casting Standards
Castings are manufactured to the following standards:
- Cast Steel: BS3100, grades A1, A2, A3, A4, and others
- Manganese Steel: SABS 407
- Irons: BS1452, BS4844, BS5484 and BS5140
Various other South African and international standards are used when specified.
These standards cover a wide range of grades, from plain mild steels, cast irons, alloy irons, SG iron, Ni-hard and Ni-resist, low and high chrome irons, and specialised alloy steel.
